			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://mypaint.intilinux.com/" target="_blank">MyPaint</a>, the open source 2d graphics program for digital painters, is looking for ideas and input for a new interface.  If you ever got frustrated with UI elements of your favorite software, or wished things look this way or that way, now is your chance to post your ideas.  The communities behind open source software will allow your voice to be heard low and clear.</p>
<p><span id="more-298"></span>MyPaint is designed to be fast and easy.  The program tries not to bog down the artist, by letting her focus on the art instead of the software.  There are a number of open source painting applications that focuses on usability instead of trying to be ultimate image processing program.  The more notable ones are <a href="http://www.koffice.org/krita/" target="_blank">Krita</a>, <a href="http://www.flowpaint.org/" target="_blank">Flowpaint</a>, <a href="http://drawpile.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">Drawpile</a>, and <a href="http://www.goghproject.com/" target="_blank">Gogh</a>.  Even with its &#8220;keep is simple&#8221; goals, the current interface is a little too minimalistic.</p>

<p>This is truly an open source project as Matt also wrote the entire novel in <a href="http://www.openoffice.org/" target="_blank">OpenOffice</a> Writer.</p>
<p>This shows one of the benefits of using open source software.  Independent creators can focus their time and money on actually creating the art, instead of worrying about how they are going to get the money for the next useless software upgrade.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-280" title="gimp" src="http://osartist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/wilberthegimplk6.png" alt="gimp" width="80" height="60" />I found this really cool <a href="http://gimp.org" target="_blank">Gimp</a> project called <a href="http://gimpfx-foundry.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">Gimp FX Foundry</a>.  (Thanks to <a href="http://www.unixmen.com" target="_blank">Unixmen</a>.)  This is a <a href="http://www.sourceforge.net" target="_blank">Sourceforge</a> project that enables you to install 117 new Gimp effects that are not part of the regular Gimp 2.6 distribution.  A few of the effects included are: film grain effect, sepia toning, and pastel effect.</p>
